Tamara was born and grew up in the former Soviet Union. She did not have art lessons at school but she has always been creative - always knitting, crocheting and making clothes for herself and her daughters. She even won a First prize for her dress at school. The first realisation Tamara had that she could draw came to her when her head of biology in medical school asked to keep her biology sketch book as a present; finding it exceptionally beautiful! After graduating from Medical School, Tamara completed her PhD in medicine and began lecturing anatomy.
In 1991, Tamara and her family moved to the United Kingdom. It took many years before Tamara’s life settled. She worked in a number of different places, namely as a shop assistant and as a technician. Finally, she became a science teacher and taught chemistry in a secondary school in Crediton, Devon. From 2010, Tamara felt the urge to become an artist and since her retirement from teaching in 2014, she became a fulltime artist.
Tamara attended various art courses during the school holidays to learn about different media, perspective and portraiture at the Art Academy in London. She used every opportunity to go to life drawing classes, tutored or untutored, or other courses in Exeter and around Devon. Since 2014, she has been tutored by an abstract expressionist artist Patrick Jones, learning the history of modern art and listening to critique and comments about her work. Working with different media, she has developed her own artistic style influenced mainly by cubists Picasso and Braque, but also El Greco, Degas, Malevich, Russian constructivists and Hockney. Since then, Tamara has created a body of work that has been on display in a couple of solo exhibitions in London and Exeter, as well as a few exhibitions in and around Devon. She has also been awarded a few merit awards by the Light, Space&Time online gallery. Her painting “Stowe” was featured in the Sky Arts the Landscape Artist of the Year TV programme, when she took part as a Wild Card in 2016. She is a member of Devon Artists Network, Exeter Cultural Partnership and Exeter Abstract Art Group. Apart from art, Tamara has a few other interests such as Pilates, growing fruit and vegetables on her allotment and dancing.

*May 2017 Bikeshed Theatre, Exeter abstract cocktails menu commission. I was invited to create an abstract impression of the cocktail without knowing what it was. The result was a menu where customers select cocktails from the menu based on the artistic impression rather than what it is made from. This activity was a part of Art Week Exeter.
